From the moment we met with Laura and Andy to discuss their wedding plans, we knew this one would be special. A festival themed summer barn wedding was right up our street. This couple were planning a beautiful ceremony at the stunning Howden Minster followed by a reception at the equally stunning East Yorkshire Barns.
Their emphasis for the right venue was somewhere relaxing where they could put their own stamp on the wedding. They fell in love with The Barns as soon as they visited, and didn’t even bother looking anywhere else.
We can see why. It was our first time shooting at both venues and being there with fresh eyes made us even more excited for the day ahead.
Glastonbury Festival was the main theme, as both Andy and Laura love going to Glasto together and they thought it suited the venue down to a tea. They even hired bell tents for them and some of their friends to stay in which helped achieve the festival vibe even more.
The colour theme they went with was yellow, purples and greys, and this completely worked set inside the ground of East Yorkshire Barns. Looking back, they commented on how the colours they were such a good choice, they looked amazing in the pictures, the boys looking so dapper and the Bridal party looking simply stunning.
So how did we come to photograph Laura and Andy? In their own words..
'Laura’s Mum shared some pictures by Rustic Lovebirds with us that she’d seen on Facebook and we loved them. We arranged to meet up with Matt and Sabina in Manchester and we got on with them so well. We loved the idea of having two photographers covering different aspects of the day, and have really enjoyed seeing pictures of each other getting ready on the morning of the wedding'.
So.. were there any touches made your day particularly special?
'Being able to have our dog Muttley with us on the day, and our friend Kristen flying over from Sydney to surprise us.
Luckily Sabina managed to capture the moment I first saw Kristen perfectly and Matt got some gorgeous pictures of Muttley at the Church'
**Can we just say.. WE LOVE MUTTLEY!!**
For the wedding breakfast they chose Feast Yorkshire. They wanted something light rather than a full 3 course meal, so chose salad with salmon and ham for the main course, along with breads and oils. Then miniature deserts including brownie, lemon posset and cheese cake, this meant everyone could try one of each. Everyone commented how amazing the food was which was lovely to hear.
*We can vouch for how good this was. Thanks so much Laura and Andy for letting us have some of the delicious food on our break.
For the evening they chose Woodfired Pizza Co. They came along with their pizza oven and made fresh pizzas in front of our guests, they went down a treat, perfectly with the amazing espresso martinis made by the skillful bar team at the venue.
For our wedding cake the couple went for a personal touch by having a fruitcake which was handmade by Andrew’s Grandma, and a cake of cheese, prepared by one of Laura’s Mum’s friend at Hall Farm Shop in Alsager.
Let's talk flowers.. what did you go for?
'Sunflowers, thistles and other yellow / purple flowers. We also had ruscus along the tables, and gypsophelia and some other flowers in gin bottles we'd collected, which both looked lovely. Our florest was local to the venue, and called Violet and Willow, she really helped the two of us pick out the perfect flowers for the day (along with Laura’s very talented Mum!)'
One of our favourite moments of the day was taking Andy and Laura away to get some fun and beautiful portraits. The Barns is blessed to be surrounded by stunning scenery and we were lucky to have epic blue skies with white fluffy clouds creating the perfect backdrop.
I think it's safe to say we all enjoyed the flares.. the unpredictable nature of them (combined with the pretty strong winds) made them a great and hilarious way to end the portraits. We all walked back to join the guests smiling afterwards.
For the evening party, they hired a band (The Fonics) who were absolutely amazing, and ensured the dancefloor was completely packed all night long.
After the 1st dance had finished the dance floor was full straight away and the barn was rocking. We stayed around to capture some of the action before packing up our gear and setting off back over the pennines home.
As we walked away from the barn, we looked back through the open barn doors and saw a couple living their best life surrounded by family and friends.
So Laura and Andy.. any final words?
'Just that we loved every second of it, and our incredible pictures have been an amazing way to relive our big day'.
